Mom has wanted to get a painting commissioned of the 6 of us for some time, and she just did not know who to get to do it. She came to know of a wonderful local artist, named Nancy Berkhouse, earlier this year. She even lives just about 3 minutes from us, and we never knew her before this!
The montage started with mom sharing a whole bunch of photos of us with Nancy, so she could get to know us and start planning the placement of each cat. It's one thing, doing a painting of one cat, but 6 cats? That was a big undertaking!
The painting took a couple of months to complete, and we could not wait to see the finished montage. Once we saw it, we could not stop looking at it. The detail is wonderful and Nancy captured our expressions to show our true purrsonalities!
Mom did not have any idea how the painting would like till she actually saw it finished. The interesting thing about this, is that the painting has an amazing similarity to the artwork of one of mom's favorite Dutch artists, Henriette Ronner-Knip! Henriette lived from 1821 - 1900, and her paintings sell at auction for up to the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Our painting is much more special than any of that artist's works, because it is a painting of us.
We love our montage!
Thank you to Julie Berkhouse for introducing your mom to our mom, so we could have this fantastic painting created!
Nancy Berkhouse welcomes commissions, and we highly recommend her for your own pets or children's portraits. Mom saw some of her work at her home, and her artistry is beautiful in person. Nancy's website is here if you want to see some of her work: http://www.naberkart.com/
