Armani Had to go to the Vet

Mom had to take Armani to the vet yesterday as he was visibly losing weight, but still eating fine.  Just got a call from the vet with his blood test results.  He has diabetes.  Normal range for a cat is under 170 and his test showed 470.  Mom is taking him back to the vet on Monday for a "glucose curve", and he will be monitored all day for a correct insulin level.  Though this is treatable, mom is sad, and she will have to give him insulin shots twice a day forever.  We will find out more next week on next steps in his treatment, as mom has never had to deal with diabetes before.

For now, Armani is taking a nap and resting, and still looking as doodalicious as ever.

Armani, you are beyond handsome! We're purring that you get better soon! Our Uncle Samy in Las Vegas is a woofie with diabetes and he's done well with two shots a day for many, many years - he's 12 now. We know your mom will take great care of you and you'll do well forever too!

Purrs to Armani and to your mom too. We're wondering if there's anything diet-wise or something homeopathic that would help, to maybe reduce the needles to one a day? We're not sure, have no knowledge of diabetes in cats, are just tossing this out in case there *are* things that can help.

Paws crossed...sending universal Light!

Hey Armani. Diabetes is a nuisance but that is all it has to be, a nuisance! Those needles for the shots are tiny and you won't feel anything. Promise! And of course, it won't in any way affect your utter handsomeness.

Please don't be too sad, JBMom!

Our Fuzzy had diabetes and he did great for over seven years...he was just 19 when he passed from old age. He got Humulin, which is a time-released insulin so he had only one shot a day, which he never even flinched, the needles were so thin--and he got breakfast at the same time! Our cat-sitter had no problem "shooting" him after she practiced on an orange a few times, the rind is similar to cat skin in resistance.

We are sorry to hear Armani was losing weight, but happy you know why. Mom looked after 2 diabetic kitties when she worked with Miss P.
( Miss P was our person until she passed away from cancer)
Mom gave the kitties 2 needles a day and said it was not a big deal. We are sure your Mom will do just fine :) Sometimes kitties respond well to improved diets too ;)

Glad you found out what it was and now can treat it. Our grandmom had a dog with diabetes and Katie did well on insulin.
