Painted Cats - What Do You Think?

My mom's friend emailed her this today about a book about
painted cats, and I wanted to post it to see what you all thought.
Is this animal cruelty or is it art?

The book these came from said some of the paint jobs cost $15,000 and had to be repeated every 3 months as the cat's hair grows out. That's $60,000 a year just to keep your cat painted!

Would any of you let your moms paint your furs?? I, JB, would not!

Before you go, please sign my GUESTBOOK, and stop by my BIG WORLD too, thanks!

JB,

It's interesting to look at but my mom said she'd be more comfortable with it if it was photo manipulation rather than actual cats being painted. She's going with the cruelty vote and adding excessive spending to the mix. Go to Jemma's link on my blog and read about pet owners forced to give up their pets because they can't afford to buy food. Then $60,000 a year on cat painting starts to sound really obscene... But that's just my mom's opinionated opinion. She thinks we dawgs & cats are beautiful just the way we are!

Those painted cats are kinda cool. It would be fun maybe to do it once but that would be it. I think you are gorgeous just the way you are. I think if you painted your kitty more then once, it would be cruelty.
Okay, I see now where you did the meme tag.....I had to go back and read

Ummm, not even! Although that plaid Meezer is very attractive! He looks like a fuzzy blanket!

I must admit to thinking that some of them look really cute.

As to cruelty....

I would have to be sedated if it was me - that's cruel.

It must take a real long time to do - that's cruel

So, I suppose that, even though I think some of them look cool, I do think it must come under cruelty.

A little teensy bit of painting would be ok - like humans have a little tattoo.

P.S. I think that some of these beautiful cats have been made to look very stupid though - That's cruel!

I am very patient modeling fashions, but even I would not sit still long enough for a paint job like that! I prefer fashions that you can take off after the photo shoot. I do not think I would like my furs to be painted. I do think the piano-playing kitty might be a Devon Rex though.

While the photos were interesting and some of the paint jobs were very artistic, the fact that the actual animals are painted is not something we like to see happen to another fur friend.
And even if we had 60,000 a year to spend on being painted, we would much rather that money go to help animals in distress than to satisfy human vanity.
We agree with the comment that it would be better if it were a manipulated photo.
Thanks for informing us because if we didn't see it we wouldn't believe it.

Um, I don't think so! I barely sit still to be brushed, I think that I won't be painted any time soon!

You asked about Gizmo earlier and how he was doing and all. Mum and Daddy say they know the cancer is back, cuz Gizmo is not wanting to eat again, and he has this stuff that comes out of his mouth...They always know cuz I start trying to clean Gizmo's mouth and stuff. We will just have to wait and see. Mum started giving him his pain meds again.
Thanks for asking and I will keep you informed for sure.

Hi Pretty JB! Um, to be honest, I think it's kind of mean. Animals are naturally beautiful. I don't think any of these kitties enjoyed getting painted. It's a terrible waste of money too. Humans are pretty clueless sometimes.
I think Iris, Princess Jelly Bean will be opening in a few more days. :) It's supposed to start warming up with some rain. I will be sure to post pictures when it opens!
I hope you are having a happy day with Mom and sisters. Billie is purring away on my lap.
Love and Purrs from us both!

I love them as they are.

They have to be sedated. That is cruel to do that just for human vanity. It is unethical, too, to try to recreate something for your own ego. I agree that it is obscene when people cannot afford to buy animal food. And I also thought at first that these were photoshopped. When will people every find something worthwhile to do for their boredom?

JB!

Man, you must admit, those cats do look pretty cool... BUT I think the cats in my family would NOT be happy if they were painted!

Those poor kitties. We don't think that is right. Kitties are beautiful enough without all that war paint...

I'd never heard of cat painting before. I think it's just bizarre. I do put photoshop tattoos on our cats on their website but I would never actually paint on their fur or even think about doing it. The thought "what possesses some people?" comes to mind.

That's just a big ole bowl of wrong. No way would I ever be painted.

JB,
No. No. I would never let anyone put paint on me or the little Midget. G-Mom says it is mean to put paint on these beautiful kitties. Instead of spending all that money on paint, the cat painters should buy food for all the starving kitty kats!

hi Jb, thanks for visiting us...

oh my goodness, are these cats really being painted rather having photo manipulation?

we think it's cruel to do unnature thing like these, we're so sad & our mommy human too...and spending so much money only for these painted jobs; oh no, while there are so many abandoned cats & our furryfriends out there who cannot have loving homes are dying for hungry:( sorry to say that, but that's the fact

we have the rights to be just the way we are!

Mommy heard that a lot of the painting happens when the kitties are sleeping. But we don't think it is a good idea.
There is much better ways to spend money. Like on kitties who have no homes...

While I think that some of the paint jobs are really artistic and quite beautiful, I think it is cruel to sedate a cat just to paint it. The amount of money spent on it is simply obscene when there are so many homeless and hungry animals in the world. If they have that much money to spend on cats, why don't they donate it to cat rescue organizations?
